MiSTeR Cee PReSeNTs: "The BeST Of MoBB DeeP"...

Re-uPP`d, originally posted on 07.21.2011...

Was fortunate enough to finally get a hold of this 'Best Of Mix' of Mobb Deep courtesy of the homie RuSTy KNeeD-eLs. I remember this mixtape from when I was a young buck because one of the kats I ran with back in the day had it, however he never wanted to lend it out. So now I can finally say, "Fuck you Chris, it only took 15 years to get a hold of, but I finally have it to BuMP!" It`s definitely a great mix, if you`re a fan of Mobb Deep then you need to check this!!!

MaSTeR P`s "HoW Ya Do DaT" [PRoMo CD SiNGLe]...

Felt like listenin` to some Master P today so I decided to dust this off, it was released in 1997 & is off the "I`m Bout It Soundtrack" (it also ended up on Young Bleed`s 1998 No Limit Records debut album titled "My Balls & My Word"). Craig B, KLC & Happy produced the beat while Master P, Young Bleed & C-Loc take care of the rhymes, each spittin` a verse. Somethin` cool to note is that "How ya Do Dat" is actually a remix, if you notice at the beginning of the track you hear Master P say, "Ughhh How Ya Do Dat Remix". I always wondered what he was talkin` about since I had never heard the original. So I did a lil` research & before Young Bleed signed to Master P`s No Limit Records, back in like 1995-96 he was rollin` with C-Loc & the Concentration Camp & they had a hit #1 record rockin` in Baton Rouge titled "A Fool", that`s what helped Master P take notice of him. Well it turns out that "A Fool" is actually the original version of "How Ya Do Dat" -- so now that mystery is solved, you`re welcome....LoL...If you`d like to read a lil` more about Young Bleed you should check out this interview that he did with HipHopDX.com, it`s definitely a good read! This Promo CD Single gives you the Radio, Street & Instrumental versions of "How Ya Do Dat", check it out & enjoy...

EPMD`s "SPeCiaL EDiTiON MiXTaPe: HaNDLe YouR BuSiNeSS"...

Got a DoPe lil` mixtape from DJ Scratch, it`s kind of like a "best of" or "greatest hits" of EPMD joints & it was released back in 2006. It`s definitely worth a listen, I mean you got a whole lot of EPMD gems here -- even a demo version of "Rampage" (it`s the last track). Now originally it was just all one long mp3 file, but I decided to separate the tracks for easier listening. If for whatever reason you don`t happen to like how I split it up I have included the original 59 minute long mp3 along with the split tracks, so enjoy...

DR. DRe` & LL CooL J`s "ZooM" [12 iNCH]...

Today I have for y`all a 12 inch single from the "Bulworth Soundtrack" from Dr. Dre & LL Cool J titled "Zoom". It`s a bangin` track produced by both Dr. Dre & Chris "The Glove" Taylor. Something interesting to note about this song, the original version actually featured Snoop Dogg & had Dawn Robinson singin` on the hook (check that song here -- Not the best sound quality). Apparently the original version was supposed to be for some Dre & Snoop collabo` album titled "Break Up To Make Up", either the album idea was abandoned or it was just some B.S. rumor because neither the album or the song were ever released. Somethin` else worth a mention is that Dre used the same beat for a song on King T`s "Thy Kingdom Come" album, that song is titled "6 In The Moe`nin`". In the end this 12 inch version of "Zoom" with LL Cool J ended up bein` the only joint to get an official release. I say this because King T`s "Thy Kingdom Come" was only 'kind of sort of' released officially however it was a good few years after the album was actually completed. Anyway do ya`self a favor & check out the single, for those wonderin` the Acappella has explicit vocals -- no edits here...

Da BRaT`s "ANuTHaFuNKDaFieDTaNTRuM"...

What`s good my fellow visitors? Today I have for y`all a lil` somethin` that I didn`t even know existed. Now it`s not really rare or anything, I just wasn`t aware of this release. What I`m talkin` about is the double EP album that Da Brat released back in 1996 titled "Anuthafunkdafiedtantrum". If you`re a fan of Da B-R-A-T then you quickly caught on to the fact that the title is just a combination of her first 2 album titles ("Funkdafied" & "Anuthatantrum")...

What you get with this joint is a few songs from both previously mentioned albums, however they`re edited for radio play, or "Rated PG" for the church folks as it states on the album`s cover art. You also get a few songs that weren`t included on either "Funkdafied" or "Anuthatantrum" & those tracks are; "Sittin` On Top Of The World Part II", "Funkdafied [DJ Club Mix]", "Fa All Y`all [Rmx]" & "Da B-Side" featuring Biggie. The Biggie & Brat collabo` is also featured on the "Bad Boys Soundtrack", both are the same Radio Versions...

One thing about this album is that they clearly didn`t need to make it double CD`s, it all could`ve fit onto one disc. I get that each CD is an EP, but it would`ve been a lot cheaper for the label......LoL, oh yeah this was released before music sharing blew up on the Interweb so the label had more then a few extra dollar$ to spare. Anyway, the first disc contains clean versions of tracks from Da Brat`s "Anuthtantrum" album, while the second disc contains clean versions of tracks from her "Funkdafied" album. You would think that they would`ve had the order of the discs switched since "Funkdafied" dropped first, but that`s another story...

The first disc sounds like this...."Sittin` On Top Of The World", "Just A Little Bit More" & "Keepin` It Live" are edited by simply muting the cusses, no BeePs here. "Let`s Get High" is edited by added record scratches over the cusses, while the hook is replace with the sounds of someone takin` a hit of some Weed instead of "We can all get high". Da Brat reworks her lyrics for this version of "Ghetto Love" featuring T-Boz of TLC fame. "Sittin` On Top Of The World Part II" is more like a remix than a sequel. The beat`s decent while the cusses are muted, I wonder if there`s an unedited version of this track out there...

Disc 2 gives us "Funkdafied", "Fa All Y`all", "Mind Blowin`", "Give It 2 You" & "Da B-Side" edited with reworked lyrics. The "Funkdafied [DJ Club Mix]" is pretty good & the "Fa All Y`all [Rmx]" is nice & funky. Out of these 2 CD`s I gotta say that I dig the second one a lot more, mainly because Da Brat took some extra time to rewrite her lyrics so the tracks weren`t annoyingly edited. I wonder why they didn`t choose to do things the same way for the first disc? Anyway you`ve read my lil` thoughts on the album, go `head & check it out...

ZaGG`s "HeLL iN AuGuST"...

Re-uPP`d, originally posted up on 7.7.2011...

  •  I know -- I know, I`ve been slackin` with the posts lately.....LoL, just got caught up in Life, but don`t worry I`m back for those that have missed the posts....LoL, Got a lil` something that may be unknown to a few folks out there. At least this album & artist was to me until I found the album up in a pawn shop with a few other joints that I scooped up a few weeks back. When I first seen the album cover I thought to myself, "Zagg.....hmmm, she should`ve went by the name Zig Zag instead that would`ve been DoPe..." Turns out after doin` a lil` research into who she was, her rappin` alias is actually Zigg Zagg, guess she switched it up after thinkin` just the same way I did....LoL...

Anyway for those that don`t know about Zigg Zagg a.k.a. Zagg let me hit ya with a lil` info`. She`s reppin` Sacramento, California & first stepped on the Rap scene at the age of 16 after Brotha Lynch Hung walked into the local Buger King that she was working at at the time for some food. Shortly after the two developed a friendship (later on a relationship & marriage) which led to her debut on Brotha Lynch Hung`s 1995 album "Season Of Da Siccness" on the track "Locc 2 Da Brain"...

Working alongside her boyfriend/ husband Zigg Zagg picked up a lot of her knowledge of the business side of things & on top of that she was building her skills on the mic. Thru~out the years she`s toured with Brotha Lynch Hung & has been featured on numerous Siccmade/ Madesicc Muzicc projects. She`s also worked with such artists as MC Eiht, X Raided, Marvaless, Suga-T, MC Breed, Snoop Dogg, Frank Nitty & Celly Cell to name a few...

As for the her debut "Hell In August", it`s a decent listen. There`s really only two things that I didn`t like about the album. The first one is the fact that I found a lot of the beats had a tendency to drown out Zigg Zagg`s vocals. The second is the lack of subject matter, just a lil` too much murder~murder ish for my liking. The best track on the album is definitely the collabo` with Brotha Lynch Hung titled "The Argument". It`s just what the title suggests, Zagg & Hung going back & forth with each other -- domestic dispute style. Lyrically Zagg does her thang & the beats thump hard. So go `head & give the album a listen, feel free to leave some thoughts...

Da BRaT`s "FuNKDaFieD"...

What`s goin` on y`all? Hope that your Friday was good to you, can`t really complain about mine. Anyways today I`m going to share with y`all an album that I`ve been listening to all morning since I decided to pull it out of my CD collection & take it back to 1994. The album is titled "Funkdafied" which is Da Brat`s debut album (she`s also the first solo female emcee to go platinum). I still remember bein` a young buck buyin` the cassette from the Music World store at the Billings Bridge mall back when it first dropped. Let`s just say that it got plenty of play in my Sony Walkman...

Now for whatever reason if you don`t happen to know who Da Brat is I will drop a lil` run~down so you get a lil` more familiar. Although you`d think she was reppin` Cali` Da Brat, born Shawntae Harris is actually from Chicago, Illinois. Story goes that she linked up with Jermaine Dupri & his So So Def record label back in 1992 after she had won a local Rap contest that was sponsored by Yo! MTV Raps. The prize was a chance to meet Kris Kross (who at the time were blowin` up with their hit single "Jump"), they in turn introduced her to J.D. who was so impressed by her talent that he signed her to his label. During an interview for the newspaper the Atlanta Journal - Constitution she told the reporter she received her rappin` moniker "Da Brat" because she`s, "a spoiled only child"...

Seein` how Snoop Dogg was blowin` up at the time in the West Coast, J.D. decided to mold Da Brat`s image as 'the female Snoop'. So when he cooked up the beats for her debut it`s no surprise that they are all heavily G-Funk influenced. Don`t get it twisted though, Da Brat is not a Snoop Dogg clone rappin` over some wannabe~Dre beats. Da B-R-A-T comes original & can flow like the winds in the city of Chi, while Jermaine Dupri provides her with some great Funky backdrops to drop her lyrical tornadoes. Production~wise if J.D. has ever cooked up anything DoPeR than these 9 tracks here, I just simply haven`t heard it yet!!!

"Da Shit Ya Can`t Fuc Wit`" has Da Brat flexin` her murderous lyrical skillz. "Fa All Y`all" features Kandi of Xscape fame & it reminds me of somethin` you`d hear at a block party with it`s bouncin` beat gettin` folks up dancin`. "Fire It Up" is a nice smokey~vibed ode to blazin` up some Buddah (it works trust me, smoke a joint to this one). "Funkdafied", which was a #1 Rap Single, is just well that, funkdafied....LoL, what`s not to like about this? "May Da Funk Be Wit` Cha" continues the funky vibe with some DoPe Cali~esque synthesizer work & features Xscape`s LaTocha Scott...

"Ain`t No Thang" features Y-Tee of Da Bush Babees, here Da Brat shows the doubters that she can`t spit with the best of `em. "Come & Get Some" has Da Brat teamin` up with Mac Daddy of Kriss Kross. "Mind Blowin`" has a good & funky beat packed with some G`d up synths (there`s even some organ in there). Da Brat closes things off nicely with the J.D. collabo` "Give It 2 You". It`s got probably one of the best beats on the entire album. So there ya have it, although it`s a tad bit short in length Da Brat`s debut is a banger so go on & check it out for ya`self & fire it up...

MaCK 10 & Tha DoGG PouND`s "NoTHiN` BuT The CaVi HiT" [CD SiNGLe]...

Back again with another Single for your listening pleasure. This one is some good ol` tunes from 1996, both songs are actually from the "Rhyme & Reason Soundtrack" (DoPe soundtrack by the way, a well-rounded selection of artists). Here you get the Mack 10 & Tha Dogg Pound collabo` "Nothin` But The Cavi Hit", which was produced by Daz (tracks #1-3, track #4 the Remix Instrumental was produced by Soopafly). It`s a nice G`d up back~drop & these 3 West Coasters rock the thumpin` beat with ease...

The other song on this Single is by Master P, Mr. No Limit himself & it`s titled "Is There A Heaven 4 A Gangsta?" It`s produced by KLC, Mo B. Dick & Craig B., all (at the time anyway) members of Beats By The Pound. The beat itself is kind of eerie which is DoPe because it`s well suited for Master P`s very valid question; is there a Heaven for a gangsta? On this CD Single you also get the Clean, Explicit & Instrumental versions of both songs. So gon` on & check out the music, UHHH...

DFC`s "THiNGs iN Tha HooD" [CD SiNGLe]...

Here`s another CD Single from 1994 by Da Funk Clan a.k.a. DFC titled "Things In Tha Hood", just like the album that this Single`s from. One thing that I noticed almost right away was the fact that Nate Dogg doesn`t appear on any of the versions on this Single even though he`s featured on the LP version of the track. Instead Reuben Cruz from Po` Broke & Lonely? (the R&B group that dropped their debut album on Ruthless Records) takes his place on all three versions on this Single. He does a good job, definitely no complaints here -- he`s just not Nate D-O-Double G. Warren G produced the Radio & Extended versions while Chris "The Glove" Taylor produced the Remix. Maybe it`s because I used to bump the "Things In Tha Hood" album in my Sony Walkman a lot back in my high school days, but personally I still like the LP version of "Things In Tha Hood" more. However these versions here aren`t bad by any means, so go on & give `em a listen for ya`self...

A side~note, both "Do What You Wanna Do" & "Boo Boo`n" later appeared on Scarface`s double CD compilation titled "My Homies" also released in 1998. I believe that N.O. Joe produced "Do What You Wanna Do", while Domo produced "Boo Boo`n". Both tracks are DoPe & humorous, my opinion of course. What`s great is that even though they are Radio versions they`re not edited in an annoying matter because Devin rewrote his verses just for the occasion, I always ReSPeCT the kats that do that. So go on & check it out...

DaZ DiLLiNGeR`s "iN CaLiFoRNia" [PRoMo CD SiNGLe]...

Was DiGG`n in to my CD Singles again, so today the first one I`m going to share with y`all is Daz Dillinger`s "In California" Promo CD Single. From what I can tell this joint was mainly handed out to radio & club DJ`s to help promote Daz Dillinger`s 1998 solo album "Retaliation, Revenge & Get Back". This song reminds me of the Summer, just kickin` it smokin` a few joints enjoying the nice warm weather......LoL, something that I`d love to be doing now! Can`t wait for the winter to end!!! Anyway this Single only has 3 tracks on it; the Radio version, the LP version & the Instrumental. One thing that I enjoy about this joint is that Daz took some extra time & rewrote some of his lines for the Radio version so there`s no annoying editing done to the track. The thumpin` beat was produced by Soopafly with some co-production by Daz himself, while Val "Lady V" Young provided the DoPe singin` on the hook. So go `head & check it out...
