PeRSiA`S "So THaT BiTCH"...

This here is a mixtape from FeMaLe EmCee Persia who`s RePP`n Far Rockaway Queens, New York. Most headS will probably remember her from VH1`s "The White Rapper Show". Her audition for the show was apparently the first time that she actually spit rhymes. At first listen she comes off as a `THuG~CHiCK`~type rapper, but that could be because of her no~holds barred, in ya` face style of rappin`. Persia does have an emotional side, it`s just overshadowed by her grimy styles...

CooL C`s "LiFe iN The GHeTTo"...

For the Ol` SCHooL HeaDZ, some Cool C...for y`all that don`t really know of the homie here`s a lil` info` to soak up. RePP`n Philly, Cool C`s first records dropped in the late 1980`s (around 1987-88). "Juice Crew Dis", his debut single from 1987 is what first generated a buzz for himself & his laid~back style (a move that 50 Cent must`ve studied). Cool C was BuCK`n verbal shotS at New York`s Juice Crew, a group that included such emcees as Big Daddy Kane, MC Shan & Kool G. Rap...

Cool C was also a member of the Hilltop Hustlers Records crew, other members included the group 3-D (been told that a lil` later on they`d be known as Three Times Dope). In 1988 a pair of singles for Hilltop Hustlers Records & City Beat caught the attention of Atlantic & they signed him to a contract. C released two full~length albums with the label; 1989`s "I Got A Habit" & 1990`s "Life In The Ghetto"...

He is best known for the two singles off his debut album "I Got A Habit", that being the title of one of the singles & the other being "Glamorous Life" (sampling Sheila E`s song with the same name). Around 1991 Cool C hooked up with felow PhiladelphianS Steady B & DJ Ultimate Eaze to form the group C.E.B. (Countin` Endless Bank). They released their only album "Countin` Endless Bank" in 1993 on Ruffhouse Records. The album didn`t do so great sales~wise, but it`s single "Get The Point" reached the #5 spot on the Billboard Charts...

A few years after the C.E.B. album was released Cool C decided to do something that would end his rapping career for good. On January 2, 1996 Cool C, Steady B & Mark Canty decided that they were going to rob PNC Bank`s Feltonville branch. Things went WAY wrong....Cool C ended up shooting Police Officer Lauretha Vaird in the abdomen as she was responding to the bank`s silent alarm. For unknown reasons Officer Vaird wasn`t wearing a bulletproof vest, she died a little later from her wound becoming the city`s first female police officer to die in the line of duty...

On March 1997 Cool C was given the Death Sentence for the first~degree murder of Philadelphia Police Office Lauretha Vaird & was set to die from Lethal Injection. Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell signed Cool C`s Death Warrant on January 10, 2006 & his execution date was set for March 9, 2006 but a few weeks later -- February 1, 2006 to be exact...Pennsylvania Judge Gary Glazer granted Cool C a stay of execution until all post~conviction litigation is resolved. So currently Cool C (or Christopher Roney as his mother would call him) remains an inmate of the State Correctional Institution at Greene in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania...

So that`s what I know of Cool C, now give the album a listen would ya!!!

PoSiTiVe K`s "The GeNTLeMaN, The RaPPeR"...

I`ve gotta give some major PRoPs to DJ Dee-Ville from over at Ain`t It Good To You for putting together another gem for your listening pleasure! If you`re a fan of Positive-K you`re most definitely gon` love this joint. For those of you that may have missed out on the post I dropped a while back for Pos` debut album, you can find that here. Here`s what DJ Dee-Ville had to say about the gem he put together & mixed...

To my Mom and my Dad...You have to love Positive-K, I mean really, not only was he intelligent, clean cut and dapper he remains incredibly entertaining. I always got the sense that Pos loved to rhyme, he was cool and confident, one of the few rappers in the Slick Rick mould to be funny but come off razor sharp at the same time.

Born in the Bronx; Positive-K`s first national release was a contribution to a compilation dropped by New Jersery label Star Maker in `86. The following year he signed to the excellent New York label First Priority. Unfortuntaly as First Priority was owned by MC Lyte and Audio Two`s father Nat Robinson, Pos`s career was under-developed and slightly overshadowed by his sibling label mates.

Pos still managed to drop one of my all time favorite Golden Age songs "Step Up Front". I remember buying the 12" from a tiny local indie store. I loved the First Priority logo; the red and yellow always seemed so fresh at the time.

Life after First Priority led Pos to a 1992 album and a gold single in the shape of
"I Gotta Man" as well as work with Big Daddy Kane, Brand Nubian, M.O.P and Nas.

The world of Pos-K has been pretty quiet of late, until an album titled "Back To The Old School" surfaced a couple of months ago. I immediately got excited & thought, shit! maybe some genius has compiled all my favorite Pos cuts together. Sadly the album didn`t quite live up to my expectations. It`s worthy of a listen but It`s mainly unreleased late 90`s songs with a couple of remakes of original tracks.

So I felt compelled to do this. I found all the great Pos joints from the late 80`s and ordered them as if it was a lost album. I took the liberty of placing the First Priority logo on there for fun and added a couple of later 12" only remixes. Shit turned out dope. I have been jammin` this non stop since I mixed and mastered it, just imagining the classic status it would now have achieved if it had dropped in 1988.

JeMiNi The GiFTeD One`s "SCaRs & PaiN" [EP]...

YeS~YeS y`all, here`s a rare EP from Brooklyn`s Jemini The Gifted One. Dropped in 1995 thru the Mercury/ Polygram labels, this 7~track EP showcased Jem`s SKiLLZ on the mic as an excitingly hungry emcee. He dropped a couple 12 inches after the EP (that`s where the 2 extra tracks came from), but other than that I`m not sure what Jemini was up to from 1997 to about 2003, he was probably perfectin` his SKiLLZ....LoL, anyway he connected with DJ Danger Mouse in 2003 to work on the "Ghetto Pop Life" album & then followed things up with another Danger Mouse collabo` project titled "The Twenty Six Inch EP" which was released in 2004. That`s all that I know of Jemini, but if any of y`all know something that I might have missed don`t hesitate to SCHooL me. Anyway, enjoy the music & peep the "Funk Soul Sensation" video -- I didn`t even know homie had a video for that BaNG`n joint...
