DJ Kay Slay & Foxy Brown`s "Beauty & The Beast Vol. 1" [HeRBaN DeLuXe VeRSioN]...

Recently found this 'mixtape' CD on that 'lost & newly found hard-drive' that I`ve been talkin` about in a few of my previous posts. DJ Kay Slay & Foxy Brown together on a mixtape...what`s not to like about that? I`m not even going to lie, now in 2022 I miss Foxy Brown in HiP HoP! My teenage`D self has always had a crush on her ever since I first heard her verse on that "I Shot Ya [Rmx]" so there`ll definitely always be a spot for her in my musical rotation. I was kind of surprised when I found this joint because to my knowledge Foxy hasn`t really done a whole lot of mixtapes, so this was a nice little find. This 'tape' isn`t rare, at least to my knowledge anyway however there`s definitely some tracks on here that haven`t seen retail releases so that makes it worth a listen fo` sho`! With that being mentioned, I couldn`t help myself but to put a little HeRBaN DeLuXe VeRSioN touch on to this one. I didn`t like how the tracks were split on the original files because it cut off & didn`t flow naturally on a lot of tracks, plus they were too low volume~wise. So I boosted up the volume, did some cutting, pasting & mixing to make things flow smoother. As well as separated the interludes between the tracks to make it easier to listen to if you wanted to skip tracks...

 

This project served as some double promo for Foxy`s "Ill Na Na 2: The Fever" (seeing as how there`s a few joints off that unfortunately never officially released album; "Open Book", "I Need A Man" & "Fan Love") & DJ Kay Slay`s "Streetsweeper Vol. 1" album, genius maneuver in my ears anyway. Aside from the Nate Dogg appearance on 50 Cent`s "21 Questions" & the Bun B & Jadakiss collabo` "Dope Game" this 'mixtape' is pretty much an East Coast affair. Things open up with a little intro from Foxy before she busts into a nice but short freestyle that leads into her "Open Book". It`s a Dipset thang with "Drama Gang, Drama King"; Cam`, Juelz & Jones bring it solid. Mobb Deep follow things up with "Serious", a darker lil` flip on Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five`s "The Message". After a bit of a shit talkin` interlude comes the Foxy Brown & Rah Dolla collabo` "Beef Pop Off". Can`t say I have heard any other Ra Dolla songs, but he does his thing on this joint...

 

After another interlude Remy Martin displays her skills on the Raekwon assisted "Respect Mine". The only Southern contribution comes from Bun B`s "Dope Game" featuring Jadakiss, as expected neither one of these emcees disappoint. Foxy drops a couple freestyles before she gets to introducing "I Need A Man". 50 & Nate Dogg close out the 'A Side' of this tape. One thing that I have always respected about DJ Kay Slay was that he always kept it Hip Hop & didn`t take sides, as you can see with the inclusion of "Magic Stick". Only a fool wouldn`t know just how much Foxy loves Lil` Kim....LoL, regardless of who may be featured on Ginuwine`s "Hell Yeah [Rmx]" I can`t front it`s not too shabby. The first single "Too Much For Me" off Slay`s "Streetsweepers Vol. 1" features Foxy Brown, Nas, Baby & Amerie. After another shit talkin` interlude from Foxy comes "Fan Love" followed by a freestyle. Vita brings "Take You Away" to the table, it`s decent. Where`s she at anyway? "Hotta This Year" is an exclusive joint for this project, I definitely dig the island vibes on this one! Connecticut`s House Of Reps deliver "This Life", a solid tune with an gritty underground vibe. Bristal brings his self-proclaimed 'club banger' "Get It" & reps Bed-Stuy nicely. Things on this 'tape' end out on somewhat of a weak note, my opinion of course, with Fox-5`s "Turn It Out"...

Been on a little bit of a nostalgic trip lately, checkin` out plenty of early `90's mixtapes & well this joint just happen to stand out amongst the ones that I had been listening to. The mixtape in question coomes from DJ Cocoa Chanelle titled "The Best Kept Secret". Honestly I wasn`t familiar with any of her work prior to this mixtape, but I truly enjoyed this one! Her selection of music, mixin` skills, as well as the 'Cocoa Mix' blends are all on point here! If you`re a fan of `90's Hip Hop & R&B I`m sure you won`t be disappointed. I grabbed the original files from DJ Step One`s blog so BiG uPs must go out to him! I simply boosted up the volume on a few of the tracks & separated the Side A & Side B files into individual tracks for easier listening. The original files are also included for those that care about that type of thing, enjoy...

TaPeMaSTeRS iNc. & KeYZ PReSeNT - "2PaC: Runnin` WiTH An OuTLaW"...

Since I didn`t have any cassette rips to share for the Tuesday Tape Rip series this week I figured that I could at the very least share with y`all this mixtape that I`ve been listening to for the last few days. Lately there`s been quite a few 2Pac news articles being published on the various Hip Hop news sites, so naturally I`ve been checkin` `em out. I can only guess that all the media attention given to `Pac was due to the fact that his birthday had just passed on June 16th. Anyway, all that reading that I was doing also led to me dustin` off this mixtape presented by Tapemasters Inc. & Keyz titled "2Pac: Runnin` With An Outlaw" which they released back in 2005, it`s a pretty solid effort overall. They definitely made some great selections when it came to the songs that they picked for this mixtape. Since it was the 12th edition of their Collabo series Tapemasters Inc. & Keyz decided to choose some of 2Pac`s better collaborations although some of them were created after his death like "Loyal To The Game" with 50 Cent & G-Unit or "N.I.G.G.A." with Jadakiss for example...

The only downside (it`s only minor) about this joint is that they chose to use the edited version of the `Pac & Scarface collabo` "Smile". Aside from that though this joint is almost a 5 star effort. I think had they used the original versions of "Loyal To The Game", "Runnin`", "One Day At A Time" & "Military Minds" then this mixtape would`ve been gold star sticker worthy....LoL, my opinion of course. I`ve never been a super huge fan of `Pac like say my cousin Dawson is, but I definitely am a fan of the man`s work! He had some great charisma on the mic & when he spit his lyrics you definitely felt them. Whether he was spittin` DiSSeS, some political ish or even some positive uplifting stuff for the women, whatever it was he made sure that you experienced some type of emotion. It really is a DaMn shame that he was taken away from us so early in his career! I`m sure he would`ve been doing some great things had he not been killed in Las Vegas. Hopefully someday soon in the near future they can figure out who was TRULY responsible for taking his Life so justice can be served & we no longer have to see the theories (here`s a nice lil` article about some of them). Wishful thinking, yes I know, but hey I had to put it out there. Anyway take a lil` trip while listening to this joint & enjoy some of `Pac's best collaboration songs spanning from early in his career all the way to after his death. I`m sure you`ll like it even if you aren`t a 2Pac fan...

DJ DiGGa PReSeNTs: "The GoLDeN ERa ReMiXeS VoL. 1"...

Figured that I`d take a lil` break from re~uPP`n & post somethin` that wasn`t up on here yet, so here comes the fun.....LoL, what I have to share with y`all today is a mixtape that was released back in 2008 by DJ Digga titled "The Golden Era Remixes Vol. 1". I shall be honest with y`all, up until a few hours ago I didn`t know who this kat was. I still don`t really know anything else about him expect that he`s reppin` Sweden (you can peep his blog here). The good news though is that it doesn`t matter much because his talent truly speaks for itself, at least on this project anyway. What ya get on this 10 track 27 minute long mixtape is some great beats & some good remixes. Some remixes are much better than others, but even the joints that aren`t super spectacular still have DoPe beats behind them. Honestly these remixes will have you wishing that the project was much longer in running time. Digga does a great job choosing some gems from the `90's to put his own twist on. Standout remixes for me are; Nas` "It Ain`t Hard To Tell", Saukrates` "Father Time", Rasco`s "The Unassisted", Amerie`s "Talkin` To Me" & Das EFX`s "Real Hip Hop". My fav` joint on here is the Saukrates remix, definitely a banger! The other joints are decent, but I found that even though the beats were awesome they just didn`t mesh totally with the vocals. So there you have it y`all, check it out for ya`self it`s definitely worth the 27 minutes that you`ll spend listening to it...

DJ Rei DouBLe R & G-Bo The PRo`s "THRoW BaCK: BeST Of VoL. #11 & #12"

First off all, BiG uPs to the homie RuSTy NuTZ! He`s the one that hooked me up with the joint that I`m sharing with y`all today. I`m not sure if he`s the one that personally ripped the mixtape from his collection or if he just passed the files onto me, but either way I`m very thankful. So thanks very much kind sir, the hook up is very much appreciated! Now if any of y`all visitors out there have something that you would like to share with the masses, just holla at me & together we shall get it out there to `em. I`m really trying to gather up a nice collection of the classic mixtapes from the early & late 1990`s because there`s some great tunes on `em. Not only that though, that`s when mixtapes were actual mixtapes not like the ish that gets released now~a~days....LoL, so hook `em up!!!

I got to be honest & say that until RuSTy NuTZ hooked me up with this mixtape I had not heard anything done by DJ Rei Double R & his partner in crime G-Bo The Pro, it`s a DaMn shame I know! Trust me you don`t have to tell me....LoL, anyways for those that aren`t familiar with these 2 kats today`s the day to change that. These 2 fellas reppin` New York have released some major classic mixtapes! It`s definitely a pleasure & an honor to be able  to share with y`all this "Throw Back: Best Of Vol. #11 & #12" tape. What this mixtape consists of is some tracks from their #11 tape titled "Da Stopper" which was released back in March of 1992 & also some joints from their #12 tape titled "Old To Da New" which came out in June of 1992. If you`re a fan of Hip Hop from the early `90's then you should recognize most of the gems on here. The only joint that I found to be a lil` out of place was Mary J. Blige`s "You Remind Me" & that`s only because it`s the sole R&B song on here. It`s a good tune, just a lil` out of place in my opinion...

The only joint on here that I wasn`t DiGG`n much was the "Freestyle" from L.G. (Lyrical Genius), it just wasn`t too impressive. Now to be fair it`s a true freestyle not some pre~written flow stuff so he doesn`t lose my respect, especially since he does drop a nice joint with "Trinidadian" (one of my favorite joints on this tape). On that one he sounds kind of like Slick Rick with the delivery. Until listening to this tape I hadn`t heard anything from L.G. a.k.a. Lyrical Genius so it was kind of a treat, one of the bonuses of discovering this gem of a tape. Another bonus is the awesome remix that Double R does with Rakim`s "Know The Ledge". The original version is my favorite Rakim joint hands down & not only because it reminds me of my favorite movie "Juice" either, it`s just a DoPe gem straight up. So once I heard Double R flippin` it the way he did I was an instant fan because he did it so nicely!!!

One thing that I need to mention about this tape is that there`s actually 21 tracks to it & not 20 like the cover lists. The 3rd track is actually Cypress Hill`s "Real Estate", everything else follows as is on the cover after track 3. The only thing about the 3rd track was that it was pretty jacked up, maybe the tape was eaten by a tape deck & that song was the unfortunate victim, I don`t know......LoL, but to remedy that I just cut off the jacked up parts & mixed in the Cypress Hill song so you`ll notice a slight difference if you listen close enough. The only issue is that because the song was so fucked up I couldn`t tell where it originally ends on the tape so I just left the entire song on there. Some folks may not appreciate what I did & that`s fine (I didn`t do it for you!) I really just did this for my personal collection & besides it makes for a smoother listen anyway. So there you have it go `head & check out this gem...

N`JoY...

WyZe iNTeLLeCT PReSeNTs "MeDiTaTioN: CHaPTeR 2"...

What`s happenin` y`all? Hope all is well & good with you! Today I have another project from my homie Wyze Intellect to share with y`all. For those of you that have been visiting the blog for a while now you should remember that I have posted up a couple projects that he has been involved with on here. The first post dates back all the way to 2009 (which needs some new links, workin` on re~uPP`n it y`all don`t worry!) & the second post was dropped last year when I shared with y`all SageInfinite`s DoPe "Great Minds Think Alike", so y`all should be somewhat familiar with his work. Anyways this mixtape is more of a compilation of some of Wyze Intellect`s best efforts dating back to 2007. There`s a good variety of artists on this joint though some have a few more songs on here than others. Overall you get a nice well rounded project, the beats themselves are solid straight up! Some of the songs may not be everyone`s cup of tea or Rum & Coke if that`s what you prefer to drink.....LoL, but honestly there isn`t one completely wack tune out of the bunch. Sure there`s a couple R&B flavored joints & even some Christian or God/ Jesus themed songs, but even those tracks are far from weak...


The project opens up with Othello`s "Awake Bounce", a nice way to start things off. Othello`s flows mesh perfectly with the funky DoPe beat & the funny voiced intro & hook breaks just make this track that much more entertaining. New Jersey`s P Genz follows the opening track with "Grandslam", it has a nice `90's vibe to it & Genz brings the lyrics to match it. A Definite head nod inducing beat for sure! Headin` back up to Canada for the next track, Toronto & Halifax representers Muneshine & Ghettosocks collab` on "Nice Guys Finish Last" & they let y`all know exactly why that is over the track`s mellow`D out beat. 'Chicago`s finest', Kastaway reppin` the Westside streets of North Lawndale & Garfield Park comes thru with "Rest". It`s another song backed by a smooth & mellow beat while Kastaway kicks rhymes about his Life`s journey & the struggles that he`s had to deal with all the while just trying to get some rest...


Toronto`s Mr. Erbie a.k.a. Young U connects with the Infamous Mobb`s Ty Nitty for "I Used To". On this T.Dot to QB collabo` both emcees spit reminiscing flows about their Lives over a slightly simple but head bobbin` beat. The self introductory "It`s Theo! [Rmx]" by Toronto`s Theology3 a.k.a. Theo3 is pure Boom Bap gold to your ears! dCypha & Nya Thryce follow things up with their collabo` payin` homage to the culture & art~form that they both love on "Hip Hop", got to love the saxophone work on the beat (I believe it`s a sax` anyway :)! Toronto`s Nigel Woodz & Neva Hurd connect on the Gospel R&B vibed "Answer The Door", Woodz handles the singin` while Neva Hurd spits the raps. This joint may not be for everyone, but you can`t deny that it`s message is on the positive tip, no question. Alphabetic & Guck collab` for "All Day", I believe that these kats rep` Kamloops, BC (if I`m wrong please school me!). This joint for me just doesn`t hold my attention, the beat`s decent but it`s mainly the emcees` flows that I wasn`t really DiGG`n much. They just didn`t seem too enthusiastic with their rhymes on this one. Don`t judge by this track alone though because I`ve heard some other joints on Guck`s soundcloud that are pretty entertaining...


New Jersey emcee SageInfinite does his thing on "The Puzzle", droppin` them deep thought sparkin` lyrics. Lettin` the listeners know that Life is a puzzle & getting the pieces to fit is a struggle, that`s why Life isn`t a walk in the park. Continuing with the Jersey vibe P Genz delivers his second track on this compilation titled "Metropolis Nights", it`s got a nice laid~back vibe to it. Freeport, New York`s P-Hill drops the love laced track "For You", a joint that has the emcee professing his love over a syrupy~mellow beat. Back to Toronto for Neva Hurd`s second appearance on this compilation with the storytelling joint "Baby Momz". Over a cinematic type backdrop Hurd kicks the tale of a baby mother & her struggles. Following the storytelling SageInfinite contributes his second joint on the compilation titled "Heat!" The beat`s got a nostalgic 8-bit NES vibe to it while Sage` spits lyrical flames...


"Let`s Ride" is P Genz`s third outing, this time around he switches things up & decides to holla at the ladies with this one, it`s got a lil` R&B flavor to it. Dublin, Ireland gets represented on this compilation as well with Terawrizt & Rawsoul`s "So Cold". It`s a nice track stocked with a beat that compliments both katz` flows as they kick lyrics about this cold~cold world that we`re livin` in. "Brave In The Heart" is another Irish contribution by Nugget & Terawriz, it`s got a similar vibe to the previous track. A decent outing, though I prefer "So Cold" a lil` more. After those 2 songs we head back to New Jersey for Chris Morale`s "Untouchable". It`s a short lil` track clockin` in at just under 2 minutes which is fine with me because Chris` flow on here is a lil` uninspired, the beat`s nice with it`s dark vibes though. Delivering his third & fourth contributions for the compilation SageInfinite gives us both the original version as well as the remix for "What`s Ya` Life Worth?" Both joints are bangin` in my opinion so it`s hard to choose which version I like best. Beat~wise I just can`t call it `cuz I`m DiGG`n `em equally, lyrically Sage` spits some thought sparkin` ish regarding one`s self worth...

 
P Genz gives us his fourth & final contribution with the James Brown vibed "Jam Session (Get Down)", would definitely love to get a hold of the instrumental for this track (as well as the closing track :). "Family" is a posse cut type of joint featuring the likes of Othello, Jyoung, P.H.I.L.T.H.Y, Poems, Venson, Omega & Red Pill. I`m not sure where exactly these kats are from, but they do deliver some good flows over it`s jazzy~vibed beat. Things close out with the R&B vibes of New York`s Mista Perez`s "Meditation". The beat`s great, I really like the sax`D out rhythms! So there ya have it y`all much like Wyze Intellect`s first installment in this Meditation series you get songs from not only Canada & the US, but Ireland as well. Beat~wise this compilation is pretty DaMn solid, song~wise it`s a decent outing. Not every song is great, but overall it`s a solid effort. Wyze Intellect definitely shows that he`s a versatile producer that can tackle a wide variety of styles which makes for a nice listen. SNoW Tha PRoDuCT`s "UNoRTHoDoX 0.5 MiXTaPe"...

Even though I`m a lil` on the late side with this one I`ve gotta give some shout outs to the BiG homie DiRTee BooGZ for puttin` me on to this joint. I hadn`t actually listened to any of Snow Tha Product`s music until he hooked me up with this lil` mixtape that originally dropped back in 2011. It`s titled "Unorthodox 0.5" & is hosted by DJ Whoo Kid & is mixed by DJ Rapid Ric. It`s basically a promo pre-album mixtape that she dropped to help generate a buzz for her 2011 independently released debut album titled "Unorthodox"...

For those that may not be familiar with Snow Tha Product I will give you all the info` that I know about her. She was born in San Jose & her roots are Mexican, even though a lot of folks confuse her for being just another White female rapper (maybe it`s her name). She moved to San Diego & started rappin` & taking it serious at around 17-18 years old, even though her mother wanted her to continue her schooling (she was in college studying to be a social worker). Originally she was going by the name Snow White Tha Product, but decided to switch it up to Snow Tha Product because Disney was going to sue her if she didn`t since they own the rights to "Snow White & The Seven Dwarves"...

She stayed on her grind for a few years, doing shows & building her skills. Then in October of 2011 she released her debut album "Unorthodox" independently. She started to make some noise with a few joints off the album. "Woke Wednesday" & "Drunk Love [Rmx]" were getting major views on YouTube, but it was actually a much shorter track that was really helping her get noticed & that joint was titled "Holy Shit". On that song she showed the listeners that she`s got a nice rapid~spit firing flow & she`s not afraid to flex it. Eventually all her hard work paid off because the buzz that the album was generating helped her get noticed by 3 major record labels...

Universal, Sony & Atlantic all began to holla at her, she eventually signed on with Atlantic. In December of 2012 she dropped her highly awaited mixtape titled "Good Nights & Bad Mornings". It spawned the singles (not sure if you can really consider `em singles though since they`re from a mixtape, but anyway you get what I mean) "Cookie Cutter Bitches", "Lord Be With You" & "Damn It". She followed up that mixtape with it`s sequel in October of 2013 titled "Good Nights & Bad Mornings 2: The Hangover". So that`s pretty much all that I know about her, she`s definitely a talented emcee. She can flex the lyrics like a real emcee should (peep "Woke Wednesday" or "Bet You Won`t") & she spits them rapid~fire flows as an added bonus ("Holy Shit"). She can drop deep emotional & heart~felt ish ("Till Death"), comedic stuff ("Telemundo") & even the party type vibes ("Good Girls"). So she`s definitely a well rounded artist, my opinion of course. A much needed breath of fresh air compared to the many run of the mill type female rappers that have been steppin` on the scene in the last 4 or 5 years anyway. I`m lookin` forward to hearing more music from her, so do ya`self a favor & check out the tunes & listen for yourself...

AZ`s "L.O.D.B. (LaST Of A DYiNG BReeD) MiXTaPe"...

To me AZ has always been an emcee that hasn`t received the ReSPeCT that he truly deserves! Especially after he dropped one of the iLLeST introductory verses EVER on "Life`s A Bitch" from Nas` classic debut album "Illmatic" back in 1994. A year later he dropped his debut album titled "Doe Or Die", it didn`t do well sales~wise but to most critics it was a great album. He followed his debut up with the 1998 album titled "Pieces Of A Man" which was pretty much a commercial disappointment. It was on point lyrically, but the beats that were mostly provided by the Trackmasters just didn`t really do AZ`s bars any justice. Fast~forward 15 years later (& plenty albums both major label & independently released) even though he`s remained the underdog lyricist he`s still rockin` the mic & is actually workin` on "Doe Or Die 2" the sequel to his debut album. He`s lookin` to cook up a gem of an album too seein` as how this may be his last, so he`s reached out to a good list of producers. Some kats on that list include; L.E.S., DR Period, Pete Rock, Statik Selektah, Buckwild & Baby Paul of Da Beatminerz fame...

To tide his fans over until his 9th studio album "D.O.D. 2" drops he has put together the mixtape that`s hosted by DJ Mr. FX titled "L.O.D.B. (Last Of A Dying Breed)". It features a few new joints, some unreleased joints & plenty of older joints that most of his fans should recognize. After the mixtape`s lil` intro things open up with "We Movin`" which is one of the newer tracks that`s off "D.O.D. 2" produced by Statik Selektah. It`s a solid joint that shows us that AZ hasn`t lost a step lyrically;

"They keep askin` how is his shine lastin`?

I`m too ahead of my time to be a has~been"...

 Now I`m not going to review this mixtape track by track because I`m running a lil` short on time, but I will tell ya that between the newer joints, the unreleased joints & the previously released joints you`re definitely in for a good listen so go `head & check it out for ya`self! Oh yeah something to note, the original mixtape had only 21 tracks but the version I posted here has 22 on it. There`s no bonus cuts though, all I did was separate the lil` interlude that was before the "`86 [Rmx]" & made it it`s own track so that way you can get right into the "`86 [Rmx]" without any delays by skipping over the lil` interlude since it`s nothing spectacular anyway. Here`s a lil` mix that I put together just before the New Year, it`s got the usual mix of both older & new tracks. I started things off with some Redman & some tracks that featured him as well, then moved it on with some Eminem & some tracks that he was a guest on. "The Warning" is a humorous DiSS track aimed at Mariah Carey & Nick Cannon both. Thought it was MaD funny how Em` used samples of Mariah`s voice from a so~called studio session that they had together....now that`s some dirty play`N! "Oh Really?" is just one of the DoPe tracks off that joint album by KRS-One & Buckshot (if ya haven`t heard their "Survival Skills" album yet I strongly suggest that you do!) "Wack MC`s" follows, thought it was a good choice since it features a nice lil` KRS-One sample for the hook -- Slaughterhouse rips up the track nicely as well...

Still on the Slaughterhouse tip, I decided to add solo tracks from each member to the mix CD. Started things off with Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, then Royce Da 5`9. Royce`s "Part Of Me" features some great storytelling, I`m tellin` you Slick Rick would be proud. "Bang-Bang"; a surprising collabo` between La Coka Nostra & Snoop is followed by "100 Miles & Runnin`" another East & West Coast collabo` featuring Warren G, Raekwon & the king of hooks Nate Dogg. The "Renaissance Rap [Rmx]" is one of my favorite joints on this mix. Q-Tip rounds up Busta Rhymes, Raekwon & Lil` Wayne for what seems like an updated version of the Juice Crew`s CLaSSiC track "The Symphony". I don`t really think that Marley Marl would complain at all since all 4 emcees rock the mic...

"Speed Of Light" & "Hood Dreamer" follow -- both are hot tracks, but I really want to talk about the last 2 joints on this mix. "Eat A Dick" is a previously unreleased track of Snoop Dogg`s, but thanks to the folks over at WIDEawake Entertainment we actually got to hear it. It`s a track from "The Death Row: The Lost Sessions, Vol. 1" album that they released back in October of last year. If you haven`t heard it yet & you`re a BiG fan of Snoop`s then you need to hear it! "Slaves" is the last track on this mix & it`s a joint by Sam Sneed. One of my friends told me that it`s a new joint, but I really have no idea. Hopefully it is because I`d like to hear some more music from Sam Sneed, especially since he didn`t really get to drop too much music while he was workin` with Death Row Records. Anyways that`s enough yapp`N for now, hope y`all enjoy the mix...
