W`ud up y`all? Hope Life has been treating you well because it`s been hella hectic for me lately, so I know somewhere out there someone`s experiencing the good side of things. I was hoping to get this post up before March 9th, but sadly that didn`t happen. My apologies y`all, been working lots of overtime at the job lately. Not something I want to do, but it`s more of a have-to-do thing. You know when them unexpected Life expenses happen it`s always incredibly fun... π
Anyway, what I`m going to share with y`all today unfortunately isn`t anything that`s super exclusive or unreleased or anything like that. I just found it kind of interesting & figured it would be worth sharing while at the same time putting my lil` HeRBaN DeLuXe VeRSioN touches on it.π About 8 years ago I was at this Good Will store & just happened to see this version of Biggie`s "Life After Death", but when I seen it I noticed that it was only a 1 disc CD. So my curiosity was sparked & I went over to the used CD section & started my inspection. At first glance I really thought it was a fuckin` bootleg πbecause the album`s cover art is the same, but the only difference that I noticed was that there`s 2 white-ish grayish stripes on it; one across the top & one across the bottom. Then I turned the case over to look at the tracklisting & noticed that it only had 14 tracks in total. So I was like, yo....what the hell is this ish?! So I grabbed it, along with Public Enemy`s "Yo Bum Rush The Show" & Too $hort`s "Shorty The Pimp" CDs. A whole $12 later I`m driving home really wondering about that Biggie CD...
I was thinking that maybe I had found an album advanced copy or something, but nope that wasn`t it at all y`all. What it actually was y`all is the Edited or Clean version of the album, at least from my understanding of everything. I could be completely wrong, if so please school me yo! Anyway this CD that I bought has 14 tracks in total & they are all the Clean/Edited Versions of the songs. In my opinion the songs that they chose to select for this version wasn`t the best representation of the complete album, this however is my opinion of course & that`s not really worth a fuck let alone 2. π Anyway, this version of the album still did intrigue me so I decided to give it a complete listen even tho I really can`t stand edited music...
After a solid listen...like I had mentioned before unfortunately this ish is not a solid representation of the album that`s fo` sure & certain! First off they didn`t choose the best tracks off the album at all. I can understand that perhaps they wanted to potentially showcase Biggie`s growth as an artist, but honestly this edited version of his last actual album wasn`t really all that well planned out. I mean fuckin` Marvel Comics` Daredevil could`ve seen that shit at Stevie Wonder`s shooting range yo! Unfortunately for the most-part the edits on the selected tracks were mediocre at best, so lazily done. Aside from a few tracks, mainly the singles of course like "Hypnotize", but then listen to how they chose to edit "Notorious Thugs". πThey don`t edit Weed but do edit "Angel Dust" -- only to later on down Biggie`s verse edit out the high off "W33D" at the & lots of Gin part later on down the verse. Be consistent yo! Never really understood why they ever chose to just make clean/edited versions of songs when all they`re going to do is either mute/mask it or annoyingly BeeP it out. Why not re-write the lyrics or add some sound effects to the cusses like they did on they did on "I Love The Dough" & "B.I.G. Interlude". Especially if you`re going to be editing out stuff stupidly! My opinion of course & what does that really matter??? πππ
Anyway, once I got over my feelings about edited albums π I figured why not HeRBaN DeLuXe touch it & strip out some vocals & instrumentals on the AI tip so it was done. Oh yeah! So you get the Vocals & Instrumentals as well, now keep in mind they`re not official, but I know y`all DJ`s out there can definitely put them to use yoπ...
