E-A-SKi`s "BLaST iF I HaVe To EP"...

Today I have some more E-A-Ski for y`all listening pleasure. Sure it`s just a short lil` EP, but it`s pretty DoPe none~the~less. The production was of course handled by both E-A Ski & CMT. Out of the 7 tracks on here there`s actually only 4 songs, the remaining tracks are skits & interludes. The first track "Blast If I Have To" was also featured on the soundtrack to Ice Cube`s CLaSSiC 1995 film "Friday". What`s cool about this version though is that it has a lil` intro to it. In it these two kats plan on jackin` E-A-Ski for his Beamer ridin` on chrome, only thing is that Ski seen `em comin` & he turns the tables around on `em then the song starts...







The second track is a Radio version of "Blast If I Have To", what`s kind of DoPe is that it contains alternate lyrics so it`s not all censored out. I wish more artists would take this route for their Radio versions. The third track "The Interview" features radio vet` Billy Jam & it`s exactly just what it states, a quick 37 second interview. Ski`s pager goes off in the middle of it....LoL, Jam asks him where he`s from, 'East Side Oakland' is his response. Ski also let`s listeners know that he`s been doin` this Rap thang since 1983. The fourth track "When The Smoke Clears" is a nice G`d up joint backed by a thumpin` beat...



"West Coast Rebuttal" is more of an interlude. It`s a lil` funny to me, especially the lil` 'fuck ya` mama' intro to it....LoL, E-A-Ski`s on the "Fuck Ya` Mama Show" & the host asks him how he feels about the whole East Coast/ West Coast thing, he voices his opinion & rides for the West. "O.P.D." is a short skit, the cops pull over E-A-Ski (I`m guessin` it`s him) driving in a green BMW. The pigs are yellin` some racist ish while demanding him to get on the ground, then the skit ends. The final track "Same Ole Nigga" has E-A-Ski speakin` about the jealous haters & doubters...

My boy DiRTy KooL AiD hooked me up with this one so I need to thank him, however I found that the volume of all the tracks was just way too low so I had to adjust the volume on `em. Go `head & check it out, let me know if there`s any problems with the sound...

Mr. MiKe`s "WiCKeD WaYZ"...

Headin` on down to Texas (Houston to get specific) with this post. I was fortunate enough to come across Mr. Mike`s debut album titled "Wicked Wayz" for a reasonable 2 bucks so I decided to pick it up. This joint dropped back in 1996 thru Suave House Records/ Relativity Records. Now as for who Mr. Mike is I can`t really tell ya, I`m sorry....LoL, on the album cover it says he`s a part of South Circle. I found out that they were another group that was signed to Suave House around 1995 which is when they dropped the album titled "Anotha Day Anotha Balla" -- aside from that I know nothing about Mr. Mike...

I apologize, I`m not totally up on the whole Texas scene yet - the Hip Hop Map`s quite big to cover.....LoL, excuses - anyway let`s talk about the music. Beat~wise we are blessed with some knock`N~ass shit that has some definite G-Funk influence, but there`s also that good ol` Texas vibe to `em as well. That`s all thanks to the likes of Suave House`s production team Smoke One Productions & the underrated Oakland duo of E-A-Ski & CMT. On the mic Mr. Mike does his thang, sure he`s no Rakim but this man can sure as fuck flow & his lyrics are pretty good too! So what does this mean? Well I will tell ya, you`re in for an DoPe listen that`s what!!! I suggest maybe throwin` this joint into your ride & lettin` it BuMP while you roll thru ya` hood with it on blast `cuz it`s sure to give your speakers a good workout. Feature~wise ya get a nice lil` mix of West Coast kats like E-A-Ski & Ice Cube as well as some Down South folks like Eightball, MJG & Nola. Oh I can`t forget that the East Coast gets in on the features too....LoL, Christion handles the hook on "Where Is Ya` Love?". Y`all may remember them as an R&B group that was down with Roc-A-Fella Records at the time of this album`s release (they even dropped an album with the Roc titled "Ghetto Cyrano" in 1997). What`s great about "Wicked Wayz" is that Mr. Mike holds his own no matter who may be featured on the tracks with him, I ReSPeCT that...

The albums starts off with what probably comes to most as a a surprise, that`s the "Intro"....LoL, jokes. E-A-Ski gives the listeners a lil` briefing on what they`re about the hear, then we`re hit with the Mr. Mike & E-A-Ski collabo` "Southwest". It`s a DoPe track showin` that South & West Coast unity backed by a nice, funky & thumpin` beat that caters to both sides. "G`s Perspective" is an introspective joint backed by another smoothed out G-Funk type of beat courtesy of E-A-Ski & CMT. "Where Is Ya` Love?" has a nice laid~back kind of vibe to it with R&B group Christion signing the hook while Mr. Mike kicks some knowledge. I believe that it was one if not the only joint that was released as a single for this album. "Total Shock" starts off with a lil` intro of some fools gettin` shot up in a drive~by then Mr. Mike takes the album into a darker place spittin` some 'Killer Instinct' ish over a demonic soundin` backdrop. "Untouchable" follows featuring some vocals from Nina Creque, this joint brings the sun back out on the album.....LoL, with it`s nice chill`D~out vibes while Mike spits some of them braggidocious lyrics. "Can You Feel Me?" is definitely a hard~ass track backed by a crazy menacin` beat, serious Mob Funk right here...

"Midtro: Here`s Your Ticket" is a short lil` track just over a minute long, it`s too bad because it`s pretty iLL. It`s a cool way to break up the album though, hey at least homie didn`t decide to place a stupid~ass skippable skit in it`s place. Next up is the album`s title track "Wicked Wayz" which is also an Ice Cube collabo`. Both kats do their thang well & complement each other`s styles on the mic. "Da Boogie Man" may have a weak~ass hook ("Gangsta Boogie, Gangsta Boogie" repeated over & over....LoL), but the G-Funk`N beat more than makes up for it. Trust me it`s gon` make ya` trunk rattle! "Dope Fiction" follows & it features an appearance from O.C. of The Scientists, who they are I couldn`t tell ya. What I can tell ya is that both Mike & O.C. spit some decent verses sendin` shots to all the fake fraudulent mu` fuckas in the Rap game. Speakin` of game, that`s just what Mr. Mike is spittin` on "Game Affiliated" over a good ol` funky beat. Next up is the hazy "In The Midst Of Smoke" which features female rapper Nola. It`s the first track that I`ve ever heard her on so I have no clue who she really is. Maybe she`s an artist that was down with Suave House, who knows? Someone can school me I`m sure, anyway the track`s got an eerie vibe to it...LoL

Mr. Mike lets the listeners know just what he gives `em when he`s spittin` on "Life On Tha Line" over the backdrop provided by Smoke One Productions. The last song on the album is a collabo` with fellow label mates (at the time), the legendary Eightball & MJG titled "Stop Lying". The beat is on some Pimpadelic Space Funk with it`s wild synths & mellow`D out drum thumps while Mike, `Ball & MJG warn folks to watch what they spit out their mouth. All three kats rock the mic in an enjoyable fashion. So there ya have it y`all, honestly there really isn`t any garbage joints on this album so go `head & check it out for ya`self...

DiGG`n thru my collection of music I found this CD Single from E-A-Ski titled "Showdown". This joint was released by Relativity back in 1997 as promo for E-A-Ski`s "Earthquake" album. With this single you really only get one full track ("Showdown") along with the instrumental, then it`s followed up by 3 short snippets. This post is really for the E-A-Ski fans that just gotta collect everything that he`s dropped, so enjoy...

E-A SKi`s "1 STeP AHeaD Of YaLL [EP]"...

Here`s some more of that early 1992 E-A Ski ish, this joint was released on No Limit Records. If I`m not mistaken the cassette version of this EP has only 8 tracks, "Just For The Radio" is added as a bonus track on the CD release. Overall the EP is pretty solid all the way thru, good beats & a decent range of topics are covered lyrically. Stand~out joints (my opinion of course), "1 Step Ahead Of Yall", "Mama Used To Say" & "Listen To The Hit". After I had already uploaded this I noticed that the file contains 10 tracks & the order is a lil` jack`D up, my apologies. To correct it all ya need to do is delete track 9 "Mama Used To Say" (cuz it`s the same as track 4 "Mama Used To Say") & rename "Just For The Radio" so it`s actually track 9....LoL, apparently I was a bit on the BuZZ`d side when I put this one together, oh well check it out & enjoy...

E-A SKi`s "EaRTHQuaKe"...

E-A Ski is a seriously slept on Producer/ Rapper from Oakland, California. He dropped his debut album "1 Step Ahed Of Yall" back in 1992 thru No Limit Records, I`ll post that up a lil` later. On the production side of things, along with his pot`na CMT he`s produced tracks for the likes of Spice-1, TRU, Kam, Luniz, Master P, Ice-T, Mr. Mike, Crime Boss, Ka`Nut, Ice Cube, Jayo Felony, Dual Committee, DenGee, B-Legit, Yukmouth, Thug Lordz, Mistah F.A.B., San Quinn, Messy Marv, Dem Hoodstarz, Bullys Wit` Fullys, Frontline, Too $hort, Locksmith & Turf Talk...

What I have for y`all is the unreleased 1998 album that E-A Ski had submitted while signed to DreamWorks Records. When I first got this the tracks were all .wma files so I just flipped `em into mp3`s for both myself & y`all. As for the album, I really have no idea as to why the label decided not to released it because it`s FUCK`n BaNG`n! I do know that E-A Ski was planning to file a 20-30 million dollar lawsuit (for breach of written & breach of implied contract of good faith & fair dealing, breach of written overhead contract & fraud), after all he had the album done (completed by January of 1998) the label heard it before they signed him but they refused to release it after he was signed. I have no idea if he ever decided to take things to court or not though...

Here`s what E-A Ski said in an interview with Allstar;

"I had just left my situation with Relativity, & Mr. Jheryl Busby was very interested, & he heard my album ("Earthquake") & was blown away. We get into this lucrative deal with I.M.G. (Infrared Music Group), the label I operate, to come to DreamWorks, & I had other offers on the table, but he was real interested. And then they`re talking about not putting the record out. I`m like 'What? How do you hear this, then all of a sudden you`re not putting it out?' He said it wasn`t commercially satisfying. If it wasn`t, then why did they sign the album? I`m hearing all kinds of things from the attorneys, that Jheryl was getting flack for signing the kind of deal he deal with me. They offered me a lot of money & the points were great. 18 points, & basically he`s getting flack for that"...
