ANQueTTe`s "THRoW The P [12 iNCH]"...

What`s up y`all? Hope the new year`s been good to ya so far `cuz it sure has been real good to me! I just came back from gettin` married in Charlotte, North Carolina then had my honeymoon in Montego Bay, Jamaica -- ya mon!!!! The Lord has BLeSS`d me with an incredible woman. We stayed at the Secrets Wild Orchid resort while in Montego Bay, I highly recommend that ya stay there if you ever decide to vacation in Mo` Bay. Anyway, that`s enough about me....LoL, on to the music...

What I`ve got for y`all is the first 12 inch that Anquette dropped on Luke`s label. I`m not gon` be doin` a BiG write up for this one, but if you want a lil` more info` on Anquette just refer to my first Anquette post. So go `head & check out the music...

SKi & The MaFia`s "BiTCH U GeTs NaTHaN"...

Had to correct an error with one of my posts. Originally I thought that this "Bitch U Gets Nathan" album was by E-A Ski, but I was totally incorrect with that one. It`s by someone else altogether, Ski & The Mafia......guess I just assumed, not always a good idea....LoL, anyway I know nothing about `em. The album itself was released on Righteous Records in 1992 & it`s got an early Bay~Area vibe to it. This isn`t my pic/scan, it was ripped from a cassette tape courtesy of my boy DiRTy KooL AiD. I did my best & made some lil` adjustments to increase the volume of the files & the quality. Wish I could`ve found the CD of this joint, oh well check it out (don`t worry about the file name, it`s just labeled wrong)...

Ski & The Mafia - Bitch U Gets Nathan
Label: Righteous Records

3. Bitch You Gets Nathan {ft. Pooh-Man}

ANQueTTe`s "ReSPeCT"...

Gon` take things down to Miami for this post, back to 1988 for y`all `80's babies like myself....LoL, gotta BiG uP the homie DiRTy KooL AiD for puttin` me on to Anquette`s music. Was over at his crib listenin` to some ol` Miami Bass compilations & she had a few tracks on `em that I was DiGG`n. He gave me a lil` info` on her then I had to get him to rip me a copy of her only album, at least to my knowledge anyway. For those that don`t know about Anquette, it goes somethin` like this...

Anquette was a female rapper from Miami, Florida who started her rappin` career around 1986. She was backed by the Throw The P Girls & introduced herself to the Rap world with "Throw The P", a track most folks refer to as the female version of 2 Live Crew`s "Throw The D" which was already a hit at the time. I guess Luke a.k.a. Luther Campbell was impressed by her song because soon after she was signed to Luke Skywalker Records, which changed later on to Luke Records. While on the label she released a few 12 inches; "Throw The P" in 1986 & "Ghetto Style" in 1987...

Her debut album titled "Respect" was released in 1988, followed by 3 more singles in 1989; "Janet Reno", "I Will Always Be There For You" & "Let`s Rock & Roll Y`all". "Janet Reno" is a track BiGG`n uP the Florida district attormey for lockin` up dead~beat fathers, while "I Will Always Be There For You" is on the R&B love~tip & "Let`s Rock & Roll Y`all" is a joint you could to dance to. After listening to her entire album you could say that Anquette was a pretty well~rounded emcee. Sure she dropped the bass~heavy party~type joints, but she did also tackle social & political issues as well...

On "Mary Mary" Anquette talks about Crack use & warns listeners "to say away from drugs `cuz we ain`t down with space cadets". While on "Material Girl" Anquette covers the topic of gold~DiGGeRs. For those of y`all that like to bust some moves.....LoL you have tracks like "Funky Stuff", "Let`s Rock & Rock Y`all", "Get Off Your Ass & Jam" & "Anquette`s Groove". As versatile as she was as an emcee it`s too bad that Anquette didn`t release much after her "Respect" album. Honestly the only thing that I could find was a joint from 1997, an answer record to B-Rock & The Mizz`s "My Baby Daddy" titled "My Baby Mama" featuring the Southsyde B.O.I.Z...

What I found DoPe about this album is that Anquette & the Throw The P Girls do lil` intros before each track starts. It`s kind of cool because it captures some of the fun that they must`ve had while recording the album, you can hear it in their laughter & ish as they joke around during the intros. "Chitter Chatter", the interlude track is probably the only down~side of the album. I`m sure that Anq` & the Throw The P Girls were just foolin` around in the studio & someone thought it was a good idea to record it, but honestly they sound like they weren`t hooked up right....you know a few screws loose, that or someone gave `em all some Magic Mushrooms. Either way it`s not really worth listening to.....LoL, however the rest of the album is!!!

The album I`ve posted isn`t the greatest sound quality~wise, there`s a bit of a hiss but I`m guessing it`s because it`s a vinyl rip. The record my homie DiRTy KooL AiD ripped it from wasn`t the best quality. To make up for that I`ve included 5 other Anquette tracks as a bonus. The tracks are; "Ghetto Style", "Miami", "Shake It, Do The 61st", "Throw The P" & "My Baby Mama". So go ahead & check out the album, give it a good listen...

ReMy Ma`s "BLaS ReMy [MiXTaPe]"...

I`m not gon` go all deep about Remy Ma with this post, I`ll be saving that for another.....LoL, what can I say? I`m feelin` a lil` bit on the lazy~side. Now this joint isn`t new by any means, but none~the~less it`s worth a listen. This mixtape was released in 2008, obviously before her incarceration. Remy does her thing rippin` thru 13 tracks & 2 bonus cuts on this mixtape...

"Blas Remy" has Ms. Martin flowin` over a beat that rocks a sample anyone that watches movies can recognize. The beat`s alright, but the track`s a lil` too long so it can lose your attention quick. Remy spits a few shots at Lil` Kim on "Dirty Dancin`". "Who Shot `Em Up?" & "Cancel X-Mas" are decent joints, the latter of the 2 being the better one. Remy teams up with Jae Millz to drop a nice concept track on "Horror Movies", the 2 emcees trade verses filled with slasher~flick type references...

"Hit Me" has Remy flexin` her toughness lyrics over a thumpin` beat with a Jay-Z vocal sample for the hook. "Ain`t Talkin` About Nothin`" features an uncredited emcee, this joint`s on the sexual tip. "Holla At A Hater", here Remy`s just lovin` those that hate.....LoL, "Chubb Rock" is a collabo` with Papoose -- they spit over Chubb Rock`s hit "Treat `Em Right" instrumental. "Stop Frontin`" sounds like Remy`s takin` another jab at Lil` Kim, at least the first verse anyway. ..

"When I See Her" sounds like a warning for someone....LoL, "X-Box" is a short lil` verse. "I`m Laughing" has Remy flexin` some good ol` braggin` rhymes. The first bonus cut "That Thing" is Remy`s lil` spin on Lauryn Hill`s track of the same title. "Victory 3000" has Ms. Martin flowin` over P. Diddy`s "Victory" instrumental. Overall this is a decent mixtape, the only bad thing I can really say about it is that it`s too one~sided. There`s a whole lot of the braggin` & tough talkin` rhymes, but not much else. Anyway, check it out for ya`selves...

iCy BLu`s "iCy BLu"

I`m sorry y`all, but I just had to post this joint up for y`all....LoL, it`s not an album that many, if any HiP HoP heads talk about. The reason behind it is probably because Icy Blu is more on the HiP PoP tip, but you can`t deny the HiP HoP influence in her music. One can almost label her HiP HoP`s female version of Vanilla Ice or maybe even his sister.....LoL, except once her album flopped she didn`t try & keep reinventing herself. Can you imagine Icy Blu all gangsta`d up?....LoL, anyways I tried to dig up some info` on her, but quite frankly I couldn`t. Aside from the fact that she was born June 1, 1974, her government name is Laurel Urchik & she reps Austin Texas -- there isn`t much else out there info`~wise. It`s almost like the label just wanted to try their luck with this album because there`s doesn`t seem to be any promo material out there...

From what I did find out, Icy Blu`s self titled album had 2 singles. The first one being "Pump It (Nice & Hard)" which samples Salt-N-Pepa`s "Push It". The second single was an ode to teenage love, "I Wanna Be Your Girl" (you can peep the video here, embedding was disabled). That`s all I know about this album & of Icy Blu. The real reason that I wanted to post this was to show y`all just how the Industry will grab on to whatever may be hot at the moment. In this case Vanilla Ice was poppin` at the time so Giant Records figured they`d try their luck with Icy Blu, things didn`t work out in their favor though. Anyway, if you`re lookin` for a few laughs give this album a listen, "My Guitar`s Funky" isn`t that bad. Check it out...
