E-A SKi`s "1 STeP AHeaD Of YaLL [EP]"...

Here`s some more of that early 1992 E-A Ski ish, this joint was released on No Limit Records. If I`m not mistaken the cassette version of this EP has only 8 tracks, "Just For The Radio" is added as a bonus track on the CD release. Overall the EP is pretty solid all the way thru, good beats & a decent range of topics are covered lyrically. Stand~out joints (my opinion of course), "1 Step Ahead Of Yall", "Mama Used To Say" & "Listen To The Hit". After I had already uploaded this I noticed that the file contains 10 tracks & the order is a lil` jack`D up, my apologies. To correct it all ya need to do is delete track 9 "Mama Used To Say" (cuz it`s the same as track 4 "Mama Used To Say") & rename "Just For The Radio" so it`s actually track 9....LoL, apparently I was a bit on the BuZZ`d side when I put this one together, oh well check it out & enjoy...

Here`s another one of them Slick Rick BooTLeGs, but you know how I do. I`m a BiG Slick Rick fan so I had to share it with y`all. My homie DiRTy KooL AiD told me it`s a 12", but I haven`t been able to find any info` out there on it -- so I gotta conclude that it`s on the BooTLeG tip. Either way it`s pretty DoPe, especially if you`re really into the instrumentals...

DJ Dee-ViLLe PReSeNTs - "T La RoCK: SuPeR RaPPeR"...

Another mix I`ve been BuMP`n is this one from DJ Dee-Ville. It`s a real nice collection of the more rare joints that T La Rock has released. For those that don`t know of T La Rock I`ll give ya a lil` brief rundown, He`s the older brother of Special K (of Treacherous Three). His roots go deep with this HiP HoP ish, he`s been around since it`s birth being both an MC & a DJ in the early 1970's. Some argue that his 1984 single "It`s Yours" is the first Def Jam Recordings release, but the fact is that it was the first single to carry the Def Jam logo. However Rick Rubin actually released it thru Arthur Baker`s Independent Partytime Records, the HiP HoP division of his Dance Music label Streetwise Records...

Due to the BuZZ that his single "It`s Yours" was receiving Fresh/ Sleeping Bag Records signed T La Rock & he released 2 albums with the label. The first came in 1987 & was titled "Lyrical King (From The Boogie Down Bronx)". DJ Louie Lou (who was T La Rock`s original DJ), Kurtis Mantronik & T La Rock himself handled the production for the album. The second album titled "On A Warpath" was released in 1989 & had Todd Terry handling the production duties...

After the second album he kind of dropped out of the spotlight for a while, then things took a turn for the worst. Sometime in 1994 while T La Rock was attempting to break up a fight that had occurred in the front of his brother`s apartment building in the Bronx he was hit in the head & as a result suffered a traumatic brain injury that nearly killed him. He spent the next few years in therapy to help him recover from the loss of motor~skills & memory loss. All the hard work paid off because he`s recovered & has been on stage preforming for crowds...

Anyway I need to BiG uP DJ Dee-Ville for taking the time to put this collection together. Just wanted to mention to y`all that this joint is almost 140 mins. long so unfortunately it won`t fit on a CD so this is one for the i-Pod or ya` MP3 Players.....LoL, another thing -- it`s all one file. Regardless if you`re a T La Rock fan this one`s definitely worth checkin`...

DJ CaSH MoNeY`s "WKiS: GueSS WHo`S CoMiN` To DiNNeR"...

Been listening to this mixtape/ mix~disc for a few weeks now, it comes courtesy of DJ Cash Money. He`s reppin` Philadelphia & is the first inductee to the DJ Hall Of Fame (correct me if I`m wrong!). In the early 1980's he came up on the Philly HiP HoP scene along with DJ Jazzy Jeff. They DJ`d parties together as the Kings Of Spin & even had a lil` friendly rivalry. While workin` together they both perfected the 'Transformers Scratch' (folks tend to forget about Cash Money`s role), which sounds like the robots from the 1980's Transformers cartoon. It`s also been said that Cash Money is the creator of the 'Chirp Scratch' as well as the 'Pee Wee Herman Scratch'. He partnered up with MC Marvelous & in 1988 they released the single "Ugly People Be Quiet". Shortly after the single they dropped the album "Where`s The Party At?" on Sleeping Bag Records, an album you`ll see here soon enough...

Anyway, that`s pretty much all I know about him so I`ll just tell ya a lil` bit about the mixtape. He definitely brings some heat with this mix, sure it`s not newly released it`s actually from 1996, but the ish is DoPe regardless! Not only does he wreck it on the 1`s & 2`s with an iLL selection of tracks, but he also brings a lil` humor with the commercials. However the best thing about this (in my ears...LoL) is the exclusive freestyles on track 6 from Bahamadia, Q-Tip, Busta Rhymes, Phife, The Roots & Biz Markie. So do ya`self a favor & check this joint out...

SoLĂ©`s "SKiN DeeP"...

My apologies, I have been slackin` with the posts dedicated to the Females Of HiP HoP so to get back into the swing of things here`s some Solé for y`all. Now for those not familiar with Solé just close ya` eyes & think back to the summer of 1999 when J.T. Money`s hit single "Who Dat" was BuMP`n thru many folks` speakers. It`s catchy hook & poundin` beat had many folks sayin` "Iy Yi Yi Yi".....LoL

Well if you do remember the song then you remember that there was a woman featured on the track alongside J.T. Money & her name was Solé. Fresh off the buzz of her feature on J.T. Money`s #1 hit she signed with DreamWorks Records & began to work on her debut album. September of 1999 came & Solé unleashed "Skin Deep" onto the world...

The album didn`t do the greatest sales~wise, however it did spawn to hit singles. The first of the 2 singles was "4, 5, 6" which features J.T. Money returning the favor of a guess verse as well as Kandi...

The second single was "It Wasn`t Me" featuring J. Weav...

Here`s an interview Jay Cameron did with Solé (Part 1)...

Here`s part 2 of that interview...

Since her album`s dropped Solé has been relatively quiet. Well, she did have a few guest appearances on records from Kane & Abel ("Straight Thuggin`"), Tech N9ne ("Clueless"), Terry Dexter ("Better Than Me [Mario Winans Rmx]"), Tyrese ("Get Up On It"), The Isley Brothers ("Contagious [Mercenary Mix]"), Don Juan ("Costa Nostra") & her husband Ginuwine ("Sex"). The last of the tracks being in 2003, however there`s some rumors floating around that Solé's been at work on her sophomore album, so who knows. Anyway, go `head & check out the tunes...

Rappin` Ron & Ant Diddley Dog were at one point down with Too $hort`s Dangerous Crew (check Too $hort`s "Get In Where You Fit In") as well as Cell Block Records & are probably most remembered for their hit "Smokin` Season". Unfortunately Rappin` Ron is no longer with us, in 1997 he passed away from a car accident. While on his way home from a hard day`s work he fell asleep at the wheel & crashed. If you`re at all curious, I definitely suggest you take the time to check this album out...

SLiCK RiCK`s "The ArT Of SToRy TeLLiNG [ADVaNCe]"...

"Now here`s a lil` somethin` that needs to be heard"...

Honestly y`all I didn`t know about this version of Slick Rick`s "The Art Of Story Telling" until I heard my homie MaRSuPiaL BuMP`n it at his crib the other day. So being the BiG Slick Rick fan that I am I borrowed it to copy...& well, share it with y`all folks that are curious enough to want to listen. I`m guessing it`s what the album was going to be, but for whatever reasons there were slight changes made at the last moment before it was released. Anyway, I`ll just mention the differences that I`ve noticed after a listen...

Right away you`ll notice that the first track "Jail Skit" doesn`t feature Redman like the retail`s version, but instead features Nas & there`s also someone else who I can`t put my finger on at the moment, but he`s after Rev. Run & just before Nas (school me y`all). Track 6, the "Bugsy Radio [Skit]" is a lil` different as well. If you listen closely the background music is the beginning of "Unify", that`s not the case on the retail. Track 12 features Q-Tip & Wyclef unlike the retail`s version that has Q-Tip & Peter Gunz. You`ll also notice that the track "Fresh" featuring J.D. (originally released on J.D`s 1998 album "Life In 1472") is included...

Then there`s the "Rick & Wyclef [Skit]" that appears just before "Memories". Wyclef welcomes Slick Rick home (from jail) & asks Rick to drop that "Memories" joint & tells folks not to bootleg Rick`s music....LoL, "Unify" with Snoop Dogg sounds more like a freestyled version of the track that`s on the retail release. Track 21 "I Sparkle" doesn`t appear on the retail version, I believe that the track was release on a 12" though. The version of "I Own America Part 2" is also a lil` bit different than the retail version, this one has a woman signing all thru the track. Gotta say that I prefer the one that`s on the retail album. The only other difference between the Advance & the Retail is that the Advance version doesn`t have the "CEO Outro" & the retail bonus tracks; "We Turn It On", "La Di Da Di [Live]" or "The Show [Live]". So there y`all have it, now check it out & enjoy...

CReDiT To The NaTiON`s "RTA"...

Got a lil` gem for y`all from UK Hip Hop pioneers Credit To The Nation featuring the Rhyme Animal Mr. Chuck D & they`re set to Ring The Alarm, just check the press release...

LONDON, November, 2010 –

The comeback single from British Hip-Hop pioneers, Credit To The Nation, titled ‘RTA’, is out now. Available at digital retailers as a remix bundle, that includes a version featuring Chuck D of the legendary Public Enemy.

The new single is the first release in twelve years from the band, and has received positive reviews from media. With strong airplay support from XFM London, and BBC 6 Music, where it was recently featured on the ‘Roundtable’ segment of the 6 Music Steve Lamacq show.

Credit To The Nation made a name for themselves in the early nineties. Their debut album "Take Dis", birthed a selection of political hits and popular singles. These included ‘Teenage Sensation’, which reached #23 on the UK Singles Chart, 'Sowing The Seeds Of Hatred', and the breakthrough single, ‘Call It What You Want’, which sampled the guitar riff on Nirvana's ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, gained the band a following outside of the rap market, and also appeared on the soundtrack to the Jude Law movie Shopping.

Since then they toured with such artists as Manic Street Preachers, Therapy, and Chumbawamba, and played live at The Glastonbury NME stage, Phoenix Festival, and the Reading Festival Melody Maker Stage to name a few.

‘RTA’ is the first single taken from the upcoming as-yet-untitled album, due for release next year. Fans can expect collaborations with Chuck D of Public Enemy, Sadat X of Brand Nubian, Nathan White, Charly Vox and Benji Webbe, lead singer of Welsh ragga-metallers Skindred.

‘RTA’ is out now, on Crossflow Recordings...

PuDGee Tha PHaT BaSTaRD PoST...

What`s poppin` y`all? Hope all is good, got some more gems for ya today. Now honestly there isn`t much info` out there on Pudgee Tha Phat Bastard, due to the shady music industry he has been pretty much been lost in the shadows. At one point in time he was rollin` with the Flavor Unit, he was also ghost~writing for the likes of Roxanne Shante & Fatal. However things really took off for Pudgee after he was introduced to Red Hot Lover Tone a.k.a. Tone, one half of the production duo Trackmasters or Trak Masterz as they were known back in 1993...

Working with the Trackmasters Pudgee was able to sign a deal with Giant Records to release his debut and only album "Give `Em The Finger". The album itself is pretty good, at least that`s my opinion....LoL, I`ll have to dig it up for y`all a lil` later so you could pass judgment ya`self. However due to label poli~trickS & a lack of promo the album didn`t fair too well sales~wise. So in an attempt to find a greener pasture Pudgee signed with Perspective Records around 1995...

Once again this choice proved to be another bad one on Pudgee`s part. The label was able to release about a handful of singles (one of them being Pudgee`s most recognized track the Original Version of "Think Big" featuring the late~great Notorious B.I.G. & Lord Tariq), but they failed to released his sophomore album "Niguz Fa Life". It`s sad to say but Pudgee Tha Phat Bastard never truly captured success as a soloist, however he does continue to stay active behind the scenes ghost~writing for various artists. It`s been rumored that he wrote roughly 6 songs for Left Eye`s "Supernova" album...

Well that`s about all I know of him, makes ya wonder if his "Niguz Fa Life" album actually exists in some record label`s vault. Speakin` about unreleased joints, let`s get to the gems I have for ya. First there`s the 4 track EP "Dead Silence", it features the track "Angel Dust" a tribute to the late~great 2Pac. I`m guessing that these tracks were put together some time around 1996. Then there`s the "King Of New York [Bootleg]", I`m thinkin` that it`s mainly tracks gathered from the 12 "`s that Perspective Records released. Regardless check `em out & enjoy, you`ll be glad you did.

ToM CaRuaNa PReSeNTs: "EnTeR The MaGiCaL MySTeRy CHaMBeRs"...

First off I need to thank Tom Caruana for putting together something that`s a breath of fresh air, especially when it comes to Mash~Ups. Honestly there`s been a whole lot of hot garbage dropped off in the Mash~Ups department. I`d almost have to say that I enjoyed this more than Danger Mouse`s Jay-Z Mash~Up the "Grey Album". What`s even more DoPe is that Tom didn`t only select the more popular Wu-Tang track vocals, but he also chose some of the lesser~known joints like Method Man`s "Uh Huh". That & the fact that the Beatles` influence on the beats isn`t so in ya` face & distracting that you forget that you`re listening to something that`s HiP HoP related. So there ya have it, I`ve dropped my thoughts. Go `head & check it out for ya`self, you`ll be glad ya did...

ToTaL`s "SiTTiNG HoMe" [CD SiNGLe]...

Been on the Total~tip lately.....LoL, so I`m sharing it with y`all. You should be a lil` familiar with the R&B group by now, if not get familiar!!! because I`m going to keep the story movin` from the previous Total post...

Comin` off a platinum debut, Total began to work on their 2nd album "Kima, Keisha & Pam". In the process they also lent their vocals to a gang of hit singles from Foxy Brown`s "I Can`t..." & LL Cool J`s "Loungin` [Rmx]" to Ma$e`s "Tell Me What You Want". They also contributed the single "What About Us?" featuring Missy Elliott to the "Soul Food Soundtrack", Pam even sang the hook on Biggie`s "Hypnotize". It`s safe to say that they were droppin` that fire when it came to the music...

Their "Kima, Keisha & Pam" album went gold & it`s first single "Trippin`", another collabo` with Missy Elliott, sold well enough to make it on the Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Their second single "Sitting Home" didn`t do so well sales~wise so P. Diddy flexed his creative genius, gave the track some mouth~to~mouth & came up with a Remix that features Shyne & Total droppin` vocals over a Boogie Down Productions sample, I believe it`s "9mm". At the time the Remix was released there was a pretty BiG buzz surrounding Shyne, especially since he sounds like Biggie. Diddy also put together a Remix for "Trippin`" featuring DMX, the beat is pretty much just a re~arranged sample of LL Cool J`s "4, 3, 2, 1" - a track which DMX was also featured on...

It`s a DaMn shame, but Total only released 2 albums as a group. I`m not sure exactly why the group stopped working together, but there doesn`t seem to be any hopes for another Total album. However there is talk about Pam droppin` a solo album titled "Undeniable", you can check out her site. Around 2008 or so Kima did a track titled "What U Want?" with her sister, who is none other than the rapper Vita (think Murder Ink...."Vita-Vita-Vita"). Keisha went on to marry & build a family with actor Omar Epps...

So that`s pretty much it, I`ll get on to what I have for y`all -- another single. This time around it`s the CD Single for "Sitting Home", it features the Album Version & Remix featuring Shyne & also includes their Instrumentals & the "Trippin` [Rmx]" featuring DMX. So check it out & enjoy the tunes...

ToTaL`s "CaN`T YoU See? (The ReMiXeS)" [CD SiNGLe]...

That`s right y`all, it`s been a long~long~long minute but I`m back! What I have today is a lil` different from the norm` here, but I`m sure you`ll enjoy it nonetheless. For those who may not be familiar with Total, here`s a lil` rundown for ya...

Members Kima, Keisha & Pam make up the R&B trio from New Jersey. They were signed to Puffy`s Bad Boy Entertainment/ Records label from roughly 1994 to 2000, making their first appearance on the late great Notorious B.I.G.`s debut single "Juicy", singing the hook. Impressed by their talents, Puffy decided to feature them on B.I.G.`s next single "One More Chance" (both the "Original Album Version" & the "Hip Hop Remix"). They hit the studio with Puff shortly after that to start working on their self~titled debut album...

"Can`t You See?" was their first single to SPaRK things off, featuring Biggie returning the favor of a guest verse. It reached the Top Ten on the R&B Charts, so Bad Boy capitalized on the buzz & "Total" their self~titled debut album was released shortly after. It`s been certified platinum; album sales~wise with 3 hit singles, 2 of them being Top Ten R&B Singles. "Kissing You", it`s "Remix" that features Puffy & "No One Else" along with it`s "Remix" that features Da Brat, Foxy Brown & Lil` Kim. I believe that the "No One Else [Rmx]" is the only track to feature both Kim & Foxy together, please correct me if I`m wrong!!!

Anyway, that`s all I`m gon` say about them for now. You`ll read a bit more in posts to come, now I`ll get to what I have for y`all. Fans of Total`s work should really DiG this because the Original Version of "Can`t You See?" featuring Biggie is included on this CD Single. Now when I say Original Version I mean that this track has all the cussin` that was left out of the version that appears on the 1994 self~titled album. This should be worth the DL alone, but you also get 3 Remixes featuring Keith Murray. So go `head & check it...
